Yes, it is possible to have the most fun and un-relaxing cruise vacation ever!

Finally! The day has arrived. For the third year in a row, I am going on the New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) cruise. I look forward to this cruise every year and there is a lot of pre-planning that’s involved to get ready to “Live It Up“. This vacation is one of my ways to de-stress and enter a world where “5 Brothers and a Million Sisters” converge on a cruise ship for 4 full day and nights partying hard and getting very little next to no sleep. Those of you who are familiar with NKOTB will understand all of my jargon.

From a stressful world of Human Resources (see how I define INSANE) to an awesome diversion to being a teenager again reliving Teen Beat posters, NKOTB bed sheets and pillows, huge picture buttons and they even had a silly cartoon back almost 30 years ago. Yes, I am traveling to New Orleans to board a charter cruise with almost 3000 blockheads that have one main thing in common…love for NKOTB and love is not an overstatement.

Preparation:

When I get ready for my NKOTB cruise vacation, the first thing is the AdvoCare Herbal Cleanse. I do this several times a year to get back on the clean eating track and slim down in order to feel confident in what I wear. In addition, it helps me to keep the clean eating routine in the forefront of my mind as to not lose all control on the cruise where food (generally not the best-for-you) is available 24/7. The result this year, perhaps my best result yet, I’m down 9 lbs and 9.25 inches. I definitely need to stay on track now!

hair color
2017 Color

Hair Color:

I always like to change it up by dying my hair some bold and crazy colors. On deck for this cruise is bright Magenta and Purple. Imagine the color of the “Its a 10” bottle.  Yes, that color.

Generally, my hair does not hold color at all. I even follow the sulfate free cleansing product routine along with washing it in very cold water, which is the worst part of the whole thing. This year, we tried a new color product and went brighter and bolder to see if that would make a difference…The result this year? It is bold alright. Let’s see if it holds throughout the cruise.

Theme nights:

This year they were announced very well in advance of the cruise this year.  I am not generally excited about the theme nights, in fact, I hate dressing up. However, I feel like I have to at least try to dress somewhat like the theme. So what are they for 2017?

Theme night #1: Blockhead Ball

I must admit this theme is not my favorite. Dressing up for me is what you do for a wedding or perhaps a job interview depending on the company. The questions that go through my mind…Should I wear an old bridesmaid dress? Will anything fit? What can I wear to be comfortable because I will most likely be on my feet dancing for 6+ hours? Selection: Long black satin-like shiny dress with black wedge shoes that I have never worn yet. What am I thinking?

Theme night #2: Superhero

I don’t watch superhero anything. In fact, I am not a fan of any of these Marvel movies, sitcoms, comic books, etc. What can I come up with that will remotely feel comfortable?

Selection: Borrowed a Captain America distressed t-shirt from a friend. She gave me a facemask as well but the color doesn’t quite match and I try to match EVERYTHING…we shall see how this goes.

Theme night #3: Neon/Glow in the Dark

This one I can do. It is a repeat of last year. Easy selection and last year this was somewhat comfortable so I got this one…no discussion necessary

Theme night #4: GPS Love Fest

This one is easy too. It is the last theme night of all of the cruises I have been on…no discussion necessary on this one.

NKOTB Cruise Door Decor

Door Decor:

Most fans are extremely creative when decorating their cruise doors. This will be my third such cruise and I tend to use the same theme as the previous years. Easy Peasy.

Last but not least is packing for this crazy cruise of sleeplessness and bad eating. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is not it. However, so much fun you have a tendency to complain about many things but you keep going back for more and more….you will see!

Excitement is starting to build intensely. So, as I write this, it is time to get in line to board flights…in the New Kids way…”let’s do this…”

  1. Ha! That sounds like so much fun! I’ve never heard of the NKOTB cruise, but I’ve heard about a lot of themed cruises lately. I’ll need to check it out!

  2. I had no idea there was a cruise like this. What fun! I can relive my high school days! I haven’t been on a cruise yet, but I would definitely like to try one. I’ll have to look into what kind of possibilities are out there!

  3. This sounds like my kind of cruise experience! I have found that most cruises are a hustle and bustle to see everything and to enjoy all of the food options.

  4. Oh my goodness, this sounds awesome!! I love your preparation steps for the cruise and I LOVE that you decorate your door! If there was an ‘NYSNC cruise, I would go every single year!

    1. A friend and I were talking about this today…N’SYNC doesn’t have one yet. I just can’t imagine Justin Timberlake going on one – hopefully, I am wrong about that. Backstreet Boys already do a cruise each year – 2018 sold out in 2-3 days. I don’t go on that one but it does exist!

    1. They can reunited in 2008 and have 3 additional CD’s and have been doing the cruise since then. This year was the 9th year…and I think they are better now than way back when….
